Breakbeats: Mo Kolours – Bakiraq

The influences are varied, including house, hip hop and soul, although Mo Kolours is able to create an utterly unique synthesis accompanied with a distinctive blues vocal style.

Breakbeats: Chad VanGaalen – I’m A Witness

Taken from the ‘Your Tan Looks Supernatural’ EP, released to raise emergency funds for Japan, I’m A Witness showcases Chad VanGaalen’s unique and compelling songwriting style. Filled with layered guitar lines, Chad’s plaintive, and poetic singing, heavy percussion and reverberated space, it bridges Chad VanGaalen’s experimental folk recordings from 2008 LP ‘Soft Airplane’ with the more refined rock styles of new album ‘Diaper Island’, released this month on the Sub Pop label.

Breakbeats: Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Jamie xx Remix / The Heatwave Refix)

The Jamie xx reworking of Adele’s hit Rolling In The Deep was already a standout remix of the year, although The Heatwave crew on UK radio station Rinse FM knew they could add something more to the track. Getting in contact with Jamie xx through a mutual friend The Heatwave included vocals from Ce’cile, Mr.Lexx and Timberlee, as well as a sample from Iko Iko, transforming the original remix into a future dancehall classic. You can download their updated version here. Thanks to The Fader.

Breakbeats: Young Montana? reworks Solar Bears “Dream Valley”
